A veces me llaman para dar clases y charlas sobre procesos creativos y proyectos personales. Estos son unos breves apuntes sobre la idea de hacer algo.
Sometimes I am invited to give classes and talks about creative processes and personal projects. These are some brief notes on the idea of making something.
1.- Mapa general | General Map
Tener una idea.
Encontrar financiación.
Hacer realidad esa idea.
Distribuir lo que hayamos hecho.
Have an idea.
Find funding.
Make that idea a reality.
Distribute what we have made.
2.- Copiar no es robar | Copying is not theft
Todo es referencial. Empecé a hacer mi fotolibro cuando me enseñaron el ‘The Dissappeared’ de Verónica Fieiras. Empecé a hacer mi película cuando vi ‘Love is the message, the message is Death’ de Arthur Jafa.
Everything is referential. I started making my photobook when I was shown ‘The Dissappeared’ by Verónica Fieiras. I started making my movie when I saw ‘Love is the message, the message is Death’ by Arthur Jafa.
3. Ideas
Una vez iniciado un proyecto me compro un cuaderno y escribo en él mis ideas. Abro una carpeta en el ordenador y guardo en ella cosas que me interesan. Es una fase de exploración. Todo me interesa e intento no tener prejuicios.
Once I start a project, I buy a notebook and write down my ideas in it. I open a folder on my computer and save things that interest me in it. It is an exploratory phase. Everything interests me and I try not to have prejudices.
4. Entonces, ¿qué quiero hacer? | So, what do I want to do?
Quiero hacer un libro. Quiero hacer una película. Quiero hacer un videojuego.
¿Para qué? ¿Qué quiero que pase? ¿Qué no quiero que pase? ¿Puedo hacerlo?
I want to make a book. I want to make a movie. I want to make a video game.
For what? What do I want to happen? What do I not want to happen? Can I do it?
5. Decisiones | Decisions
¿Qué tipo de autores queremos ser? ¿Qué tipo de autores no queremos ser? ¿Qué mapas de decisiones usaron aquellas personas (o proyectos) a las que nos queremos parecer? ¿Qué? ¿Cómo?
What kind of authors do we want to be? What kind of authors do we not want to be? What decision maps did those people (or projects) we want to resemble use? What? How?
6. ¿Es viable lo que quiero hacer? | Is what I want to do viable?
¿Cuánto cuesta lo que quiero hacer? ¿Cuánta energía y entusiasmo tengo? ¿Cuánto tiempo le puedo dedicar a mi proyecto? Tenemos que conseguir apoyo y encontrar financiación. Tenemos que hacer un dossier.
How much does what I want to do cost? How much energy and enthusiasm do I have? How much time can I dedicate to my project? We need to get support and find funding. We need to make a dossier.
7. ¿A quién? | To whom?
¿A quién nos estamos dirigiendo? ¿Desde dónde? ¿Qué queremos que sientan? Intentar hacer algo que sea memorable para otro alguien. Cuando vi ‘Desenredo’ de Angelica Dass sentí que me estaba hablando directamente a mí.
To whom are we addressing ourselves? From where? What do we want them to feel? Try to create something memorable for someone else. When I saw ‘Desenredo’ by Angelica Dass I felt like she was speaking directly to me.
8. El proceso creativo | The creative process
Tenemos que terminar de hacer realidad esa idea. Necesitaremos ayuda. Durante el hacer del libro lo pasé muy mal. Con la película lo pasé muy bien. No llevamos ambulancias. Si sale mal no pasa nada.
During the making of the book, I had a very hard time. With the movie, I had a very good time. We have to finish making that idea a reality. We will need help. We do not carry ambulances. If it goes wrong, it’s no big deal.
9. ¿Dónde? | Where?
Hay que distribuir lo que hayamos hecho. El dónde y el cómo son tan importantes como el qué.
We need to distribute what we have made. The where and how are as important as the what.
10. ¿Conoces la historia de Sharon Jones? | Do you know the story of Sharon Jones?
Hay que disfrutar y no perder el fueguito.
You have to enjoy and not lose the little fire.
